On 21st September 2024, the Department of Hospitality Science at YIASCM, Balmatta, organized a dual event under the Social Responsibility and Community Engagement course - a visit to Paschim Rehab Old Age Home and a beach cleaning drive at Someshwar Beach.
Visit to Paschim Rehab Old Age Home
The objective was to understand the functioning of the facility and engage meaningfully with the elderly residents. Students were welcomed by Dr. Rohith, a dedicated social worker, who introduced them to the institution and its 125 residents.
Key Activities:
- Orientation by Dr. Rohith on the home's operations
- Interaction with residents, listening to life stories
- Entertainment session with music, dance, and performances
- Donation of ₹8,000 along with essentials like toiletries and clothes
The visit fostered empathy, compassion, and understanding, leaving a lasting impact on both students and residents.
Beach Cleaning at Someshwar Beach
Post the visit, students participated in a beach cleanup at 1 PM to promote environmental responsibility.
Objectives:
- Raise awareness about plastic pollution
- Promote sustainability and teamwork
- Encourage stewardship of natural resources
Students actively collected litter and participated in faculty-led discussions on ecological preservation and sustainable living.
