Bachelor of Arts(Hons)or BA Programme is a globally favored interdisciplinary programme preferred by many young and ambitious students. It is a four year under graduate programme that strives to give students with wide understanding of the humanities and Social Sciences through the several BA connections available. Students study a vast array of subjects(courses) like Economics, Political Science, Geography, Psychology, journalism etc., that help them to develop analytical bent of mind, thereby improving their sensibilities towards society.

BA Hons Programme typically consists of Credits are earned through a combination of compulsory courses, programme specific courses and elective courses.While programme specific courses help the students to expand their knowledge base in a particular field, general education courses lay the foundation for valuable soft skills like creativity, leadership, communication and critical thinking.

BA (Honours) Programme is a Bachelor of Arts, Honours Programme that stands for collective study of various subjects. The BA Programme is focused on the humanities aspects of Social Sciences with strong foundation in socio-cultural, economic, political, historical, environmental theories with the aim of instilling rigorous critical thought. Also, they can work in the Legal Affairs department by holding top-rated positions such as Columnist, Radio Jockey, Photojournalist, News Reporter, and Copywriter.

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences organised a Drawing Workshop and Competition on 14th February 2026 at Govt. Primary School, Vidyanagar, Panjimogaru, as part of its extension activity and experiential learning initiative under the Event Management component of the Advertising and Public Relations course.
A total of 33 students of Grade II enthusiastically participated in the workshop.
The programme was graced by Ms. Yashodha Acharya (SDMC President), Ms. Vani (School Principal), Dr. Vasanth Kumar (Head, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences), Dr. Deekshitha Prashanth (BA Class Advisor), and Mr. Sagar Shetty.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Srinivasa Pejathaya (Programme Coordinator) along with student coordinators Mr. Thamseer and Rashad Usman.
BA Design students Shivani, Sumaiya, Likhitha and Nafeesa conducted the workshop meaningfully, guiding the children through creative activities, while final-year BA students actively engaged and managed the event.
As part of their academic requirement in Event Management, students handled planning, coordination, logistics, sponsorship and execution of the programme, gaining valuable hands-on experience. Stationery kits, crayons, and sweets were distributed to all participants, and trophies were awarded to the Winner and Runner-up.
The initiative successfully blended community outreach with experiential learning, fostering creativity among young learners while strengthening practical event management skills among students.

The Department of Humanities and Social Science/Design, YIASCM, Kulur Campus, organized a workshop titled “From Idea to Ownership” on IPR and Copyright for Design on 18, February 2026.
Ms. Meghna R. Anand, Advocate and Assistant Professor of Law, SDM Law College, Mangaluru, emphasized the critical importance of safeguarding intellectual ideas. She explained that creativity and innovation must be legally protected through proper documentation and awareness of intellectual property rights such as copyrights, trademarks, and patents. She guided students on how ownership rights can be secured and why timely registration and systematic record-keeping are essential to prevent misuse of original work.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Dr.Vasanth Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and head of the department, who stressed the need to document innovations to establish rightful ownership. In his presidential remarks, Mr. Narayan Sukumar A, Vice Principal, YIASCM, encouraged students to make meaningful use of their single life opportunity, avoid unhealthy comparisons, and recognize that the definition of success differs for each individual.
The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. K. Kalaiselvi, Assistant Professor, and concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Shreelakshmi, Lecturer, Department of Design and Programme Coordinator. The event was compered by Izzah Maryam Shanavaskhan, II Year Communication Design student, in the presence of Ms. Madhumita Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor and Programme Coordinator for Design , along with faculty members and Design students.
The workshop provided valuable insights into transforming ideas into legally recognized ownership, equipping students with practical knowledge on intellectual property protection.
