Formix 2.0 celebrates the art of storytelling through digital sculpting at Yenepoya Kulur campus

Mangaluru, October 27: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and Design at Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), Kulur, a constituent unit of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) hosted Formix 2.0, a national seminar on Storytelling with Digital Sculpting, bringing together creative minds from various institutions to explore how technology and imagination shape modern storytelling.

The event featured Mr. Vichar BN, Art Director at Technicolor Games, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he urged students to "make the best use of this golden age" and to view mistakes as stepping stones in their artistic journey. "You will not get such freedom once you join the industry," he reminded them, adding that storytelling is what gives art its soul. He encouraged participants to dream big and work relentlessly towards their creative goals.

Ms. Usha Iyer, Academic Advisor at ISDC - the academic collaborator for YIASCM's design courses - called on students to make use of visiting mentors and industry experts, noting that such interactions offer valuable insights into professional practice.

In his introductory note, Dr. Vasanth Kumar, Head and Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences described art as "an act of love and compassion" that can help build more humane societies. He emphasised that the department seeks to prepare students who combine creativity with purpose.

Prof. Jeevan Raj, Principal of YIASCM, in his presidential address, lauded the initiative for blending creativity, art, and technology. He remarked that events like Formix 2.0 provide students with opportunities to display both their artistic and organisational abilities.

Mr. Narayan Sukumar A, Vice Principal; Mrs. Madhumita Bhattacharyya, Associate Professor and ISDC Programme Coordinator; Mr. Sagar Shetty, Event Coordinator; and teaching faculty members from various colleges and departments were present.

Mrs. Shreelakshmi, Lecturer in the Department of Fashion Design, compered the event, while Dr. Deekshitha Prashanth, Event Coordinator, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Shivani Prabhu, a final-year student of Communication Design (Animation), proposed the vote of thanks.

"Animation is like Aham Brahma"

A masterclass by Mr. Vichar BN followed the inaugural session. Through an engaging demonstration, he spoke about setting ambitious creative goals, drawing inspiration from Indian mythology and ancient architecture, and applying concepts such as spiral eye movement in sculpting. He reminded participants that "animation is like Aham Brahma - when we converse with our work, we begin to love it."

The seminar concluded with creative competitions where students showcased their skills in design and digital storytelling.

Formix 2.0 left participants inspired to view storytelling not merely as a design technique but as a way of connecting art, culture, and emotion in the digital age.
