Industrial Visit to Cochin International Container Freight Station (CFS)
Sep 12, 2025
On September 12, 2025, a group of 41 final-year BBA Logistics and
Supply Chain Management students, accompanied by Professor Prakruthi and
Professor Cassin, visited the Cochin International Container Freight
Station (CFS), a unit under Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited
(KSIE). The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to container
freight operations, customs procedures, and logistics management.
During
the visit, the students were warmly welcomed by Deputy Manager
Srikumar, who interacted with them and shared valuable insights into the
functioning of the CFS. The students observed the movement and handling
of containerized cargo, customs clearance processes, and warehousing
operations. They also noted the use of digital entry systems,
surveillance, and tracking methods for monitoring cargo flow, ensuring
safety and operational efficiency.
The
CFS plays a pivotal role in handling containerized cargo at Cochin
Port, providing services like customs clearance, warehousing, handling,
and transportation support for domestic and international trade. The
students gained hands-on insights into how logistics theories are
applied in real industry practices and understood the challenges in
cargo handling, importance of compliance, and the role of technology in
modern logistics.
The
visit was highly informative and enriching, providing a deeper
understanding of containerized cargo management, customs processes, and
the strategic importance of logistics hubs in international trade. The
students expressed gratitude to the management and staff of Cochin
International Container Freight Station (KSIE) for granting them the
opportunity to visit and share their knowledge. They also thanked their
faculty members for organizing this educational visit, which will
greatly contribute to their academic learning and prepare them for
professional careers in logistics and supply chain management.
